I found this conversation with Stephen Porges and Karen Onderko amazing, fascinating, amazingly fascinating..... I am so curious about the underlying physiology of how and why we behave the way we do and their explanations were very accessible. This conversation was filled with so many nuggets -- I will definitely give this another listen and take a look at their book. Stephen and Karen's deconstruction of your meditation also confirmed for me why I am so drawn to your guided meditations: the timbre of your voice, gentle offering of choices, and the reminders that we are already here.
I'm particularly curious about the SSP and the idea / science that certain frequencies calm the nervous system, in part because of an experience with sound that opened the pathway to my daily meditation practice. After many many many years of thinking of myself as a serially failing meditator, a sound installation at the Rubin Museum in NYC changed everything for me. Within a few seconds of being immersed in this soundscape, I knew that I was home. I returned to listen to it several times and made a recording, which I return to when I have days where meditating is difficult. Hearing it immediately brings me into a state of deep calm.
I made a surreptitious recording and might be able to share a brief audio clip with you if I can figure out how to do that. If you connect with me on insta (@myname) and DM me your contact info, I can try sharing a clip with you.
Thank you Thank you Thank you.

This was so nice to read, Tamar. And I’m curious too - is this soundscape from the Rubin museum something I could try out as well?

Great conversation! I mean, can we just play the music from the protocol over loudspeakers for the whole world...?
thank you, that is very generous :)
